"Born and Raised on "Rock and Roll"
(Dennis Lewin)
I was born here in the midwest
Where we coined the phrase that they still call "Rock and Roll"
Those rainy old days and cold winter nights
Could never stop the backbeat in my soul
And every time they told me
That it was only the fool
Who would waste their life in a backstage dive
For a good time and a tune I'd say.....
I was Born and Raised on Rock and Roll
I learned to sing off the radio
When your Born and Raised on Rock and Roll
You play it loud from the heart and soul
Well I really never made much money
But I sure learned a lot about life playing Rock and Roll
'Cause I drove a million miles and copped a lot of styles
Playing one night stands 'til I couldnt get it up anymore
And every day I wonder
What it means to be secure
Do you think I'll ever find out
What the rest of my life means for sure?
"Somewhere" out in the Night
(Dennis Lewin)
Walking alone
Down an old city road
I was lonely
Shadows of time
That the world left behind
Seemed to be fading
As I look to the wind for comfort
She whispered to me these words of hope
She said.....
Somewhere out in the night
Love is gonna' find me
Somewhere out in the night
Love is gonna' find me yeah
Full moon on the rise
Of a New York skyline
Keeps me wondering
Silhouettes in my mind
Of a dream left behind
Never leave
And as I look to the wind for comfort
She whispers to me these words of hope
And she said....
Somewhere out in the night
Love is gonna' find me
Somewhere out in the night
Love is gonna' find me yeah....
"Find the Way Back"
(Dennis Lewin)
Whenever you feel down
And you find you need someone to talk to
You know where I'll be found
I'll be standing here
Waiting for you girl to....
Find the way back to my heart
Whenever you need someone to talk to
Find the way back to my heart
Whenever you need someone to hold you
You know I tried so hard
To give you my love
But I don't regret it
And one day your gonna' find
That are love would have grown
If you would have only let it
Find the way back to my heart
Whenever you need someone to talk to
Find the way back to my heart
Whenever you need someone to hold you
Whenever you feel down
and your whole world seems
Like you were forgotten
You know I'm gonna' come around
And take you back home
To the place where we started
Just find your way back to my heart
Whenever you need someone to talk to
Find your way back to my heart
Whenever you ne someone to hold you
"Jane"
(Dedicated to P.D. Columnist "Jane Scott")
(Dennis Lewin)
Dear Jane
It's an early cold Friday morning
And my radio is blasting down the hall
Waking me up to the sounds
Of the late great Marvin Gaye
I fell out of bed
Got dressed and read the morning paper
I saw a picture of myself on the back page news
Next to an add for the final shows of Michael's band
Jane, Jane you watched me change from a boy to a man
Jane you stood behind me and the boys in the band
Don't you ever give up on us Jane
You know Jane I was 5 back in 64
When you started at Friday magazine
There wasn't a flash in the pan that you missed
Or a style un-seen
But than the papers read
Jane they say you're too old for the new style
But you never mix art and age as one
'Cause the older you get the better you shine in the public's eye
Jane, Jane you watched me change from a boy to a man
Jane you stood behind me and the boys in the band
Don't you ever give up on us Jane
Jane they always try to cut you down to pieces
To criticize your work is a slap in the face of justice
You broke so many bands that came from foreign lands
and now they try to take away the pen that wrote their names
"Sweet Rachel"
(Dennis Lewin)
Rachel
What do I do now
You got me going
But I can't seem to find out what to do
"Cause I'm a man that finds himself giving all that I can
But then you tell me time will bring us closer at hand
Sweet Rachel
When am I gonna' find out
That the world is not always what I want it to be
Sweet Rachel
When are you gonna' find out
That life will always be harder for me
When I was younger
I could run all around
But now I'm older
And dreams seem to settle down
I've got so much love living down inside of my soul
But I'm afraid my heart can't pay another lonely toll
Sweet Rachel
When am I gonna' find out
That the world is not always what I want it to be
Sweet Rachel
When are you gonna' find out
That life will always be harder for me
"Uptown L.A."
(Dennis Lewin)
Tell the preacher Sunday morning I'll be on my way
I'll be heading for the west towards Sunset in Uptown L.A.
Lord it's hard to find a job when you want it all
Got to keep my head up high gonna' pray for it all
In Uptown L.A.
Uptown L.A.
They tell me that the girls are the best in the world in L.A.
To have a house up in the hills or to be a big shot movie star in a limousine
When the Sunset's down on Vine and a billboard fills the sky with my name
I'll be thinking about the years when I couldn't even get the time of day
In Uptown L.A.
Uptown L.A.
"Still in my Heart"
(Dennis Lewin)
Every night I stay up late
Thinking of you until the morning light
And those crazy nights all those crazy nights
And every day "As Time Goes By"(as in the 40's song)
Were living our lives like Jay Gatsby's way
And the music played on and on and on
And you know you're
Still in my Heart
Your Still in my Soul
You're still all the world to this lonely fool
You're Still in my Heart
You're Still in my Soul
You're still all the world to this lonely fool
Midnight hours away
My carriage is drawn to the evening play
Where we danced our lives danced our lives away
And you know you're
Still in my Heart
You're Still in my Soul
You're Still all the world to this lonely fool
